Key Whatcom County road to close for underground work

The Bellingham Herald

A key road in rural northern Whatcom County will close for about a month starting next week.

West Smith Road will close Monday between Barret Road and Northwest Drive as the city of Ferndale replaces a sewer line.

A detour will use Barret Road, Main Street/Axton Road and Northwest Drive.

Some 4,700 cars and trucks traveled West Smith Road west of Northwest Drive in 2008, according to the most recent data from the Whatcom Council of Governments.

Estimated cost of the project is $600,000, according to the city of Ferndale website.
