A social justice organization has planned a rally this weekend in Bellingham against the Israeli siege of Gaza.

An organization called Whatcom Families for Justice in Palestine is sponsoring the event at 1 p.m. Saturday at Maritime Heritage Park “in solidarity with the people of Gaza, and in pursuit of peace and justice for all victims of white supremacy and settler colonialism,” according to an emailed statement.

The Whatcom Peace and Justice Center, which uses the phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” on its social media, is helping to advertise the rally. Those words are often used by Hamas and the slogan is considered antisemitic because it calls for the destruction of the state of Israel in the homeland of the Jewish people.

No mention is made of the Oct. 7 attack that killed more than 1,300 Israeli civilians and the abduction of more than a hundred hostages by Hamas militants. That attack by Hamas, which the U.S. has labeled a terrorist organization, set off the current wave violence in the region.
