Now that Discount Tire has moved to a nearby space, expansion work can begin at the Lakeway Fred Meyer gas station.

Demolition work began this week on the building, which is next to the gas station at 750 Lakeway Drive.

According to plans submitted to the city, Fred Meyer will put in six additional fueling islands, meaning 12 more cars can fuel up at a time. The plans also include changes to the entrance area from Lakeway to improve traffic flow.

Once construction begins, work is expected to take about 10 weeks to complete, according to the original announcement from Fred Meyer.

The new Discount Tire store has moved to the former Hollywood Video space, next to the Fred Meyer garden center. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, closed Sunday. A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 1.
