Man removing debris from the road is killed after being hit by a car on Guide Meridian

A Bellingham man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening just north of Bellingham on Guide Meridian.

The victim, Roger L. Olson, 44, was standing in a lane attempting to remove some kind of debris from the road when he was struck by a vehicle heading south, police said.

No one in the vehicle was injured.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Guide Meridian, also known as State Route 539, and East E. Smith Road.

No other details were immediately available, including the driver of the vehicle, and why Olsen was attempting to remove debris from the road.
