Three days after a shooting at a popular Bellingham park, police have released limited details regarding the incident.

The shooting, in which 37-year-old Isaac Ruiz of Mount Vernon was killed at Lake Padden Park, is still under investigation.

Ruiz was killed by a gunshot wound to the neck in what has been ruled a homicide, according to Deborah Hollis of the Whatcom Medical Examiner’s office.

The shooting took place inside the east entrance past the golf course by about 100 yards, according to Lt. Claudia Murphy of the Bellingham Police Department.

Police said they were not aware of anyone else being injured in the shooting.

The detective division isn’t ready to release details on the shooting, Lt. Claudia Murphy of the Bellingham Police Department told The Herald. This includes the number of shots fired, the type of firearm used and whether the firearm has been recovered by police. Suspects have not been identified, Murphy said.

At the time of the incident, police were looking for a black Acura as the suspect’s vehicle according to police radio conversations archived by the Broadcastify service.
