Section of Thornton Road in Ferndale to close for a month

FERNDALE

A section of Thornton Road will be shut down for more than a month starting Monday, July 20.

Thornton from west of Della Street to Olson Road will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Crews will be installing utilities and making improvements for the upcoming The Meadows housing development, planned for 157 homes.

The work is scheduled to be completed Aug. 28.

During the work, people who live or work along the closed stretch will be allowed through. All other traffic will deter using Church, Mountain View and Olsen roads.

Whatcom Humane Society is caring for 78 animals — including rabbits and a tarantula — that were rescued as Hohl Feed & Seed burned Monday in Bellingham. Some birds and a large snake remain missing.
