Bellingham is looking to improve the bicycle and walking trails and wants public feedback in a survey of all, not just those who use the trails.

The survey was created as a part of the 2022 Pedestrian and Bicycles Master Plan Updates. This project is updating the 2012 Pedestrian Master Plan and the 2014 Bicycle Master Plan.

“The Bicycle Master Plan identifies steps for creating a safe, well-connected environment for those of all ages and abilities to bike for daily transportation, enjoyment or exercise. Since the original plan’s adoption in 2014, over 50% of the projects identified in the master plan have been completed, the population of Bellingham has grown, and the needs and priorities of the community may have changed. Public feedback is essential to creating an updated plan that reflects the community’s needs and interests,” Bellingham Public Works spokesperson Andrea Reiter said in a news release.

The city has also created an interactive map where people can add ideas to improve the bicycle network. The map includes existing improvements and recommended improvements from the 2014 master plan.

People have until May 31 to provide feedback on the new system.
