Squalicum High School goes into brief lockdown. Here’s why

The Bellingham Herald file

Squalicum High School went into a temporary lockdown around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, which was reduced to a lockout 25 minutes later, and eventually lifted completely around 10:30 a.m.

Nobody at the school was injured or threatened, and police confirmed there was no immediate threat to the school, according to a message to students, families and staff from Principal Miguel Perez.

The lockdown was caused by social media images that appeared to show a weapon on or near the campus. A police investigation found no weapons at the school.

A lockdown means lights are off, everyone stays quite and out of sight, while a lockout means school continues as normal but the exterior doors are all locked.
