The Bellingham Herald file

A hit-and-run collision left two people from Blaine injured Tuesday night, March 7, just after 5:30 p.m. on Blaine Road near milepost 11 in Whatcom County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The collision occurred when a vehicle that did not stop after the collision attempted to pass a 2007 Mazda 6 heading east. The driver of the Mazda over-corrected and hit the concrete barrier on the right shoulder before stopping.

A 33-year-old woman driver was thrown from the Mazda. She and a 13-year-old girl passenger were taken to St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham.

The driver remains in critical condition, according to St. Joseph spokeswoman Beverly Mayhew Wednesday, March 8. The name of the young passenger was not released by the state patrol, so The Bellingham Herald is unable to check her condition.
