Woman killed in crash east of Lynden
An Everson woman was killed last weekend when she ran a stop sign in a rural area east of Lynden and was hit by another driver, the Washington State Patrol said.
Maria D. Slayton, 79, died at St. Joseph hospital, where she was taken by ambulance after the crash at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, the State Patrol said in a report.
Slayton, who was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent north on Trapline Road, ran a stop sign at East Badger Road and was hit in the intersection by Rick L. Hecock, 48, of Bellingham.
Hecock was heading east on East Badger Road in a 2019 Kia Soul.
He was uninjured.
The force of the collision sent both cars into a ditch, the State Patrol report said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Drug and alcohol use were not suspected and no charges were pending, according to the report.
