Here’s what’s changed when you fly Alaska out of Bellingham International
A change in airplane type led Alaska Airlines to change the rules for checking a bag at Bellingham International Airport this week. The plane-side cart, also known as “ramp check,” has been replaced.
Alaska employees will now offer to check bags to flyers’ destinations. Exceptions will be made for passengers in first class and those with special situations such a mobility aid and infant or child equipment.
This change follows a switch from Alaska’s sister carrier Horizon Air transitioning from the Q400 turboprop to the Embraer 175 jet.
The plane-side cart was a service offered for Q400 flights because of the small size of the overhead bins, according to an email from Alaska Airlines.
A Port of Bellingham Facebook post Sunday, Jan. 8, commemorated the final Bombardier Q-400 aircraft to be received at the airport. It said the E175 will “enhance the passenger’s experience with upgraded features such as a three-class configuration, available Wi-Fi, and is also more fuel efficient resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.”
