Stretch of Mount Baker Highway to close until September

Mount Baker Highway will be closed in both directions at Anderson Creek for 11 weeks starting on Tuesday, July 14.

Crews will replace two culverts over Anderson Creek with a bridge, to make it easier for salmon to swim up the creek and to eliminate maintenance problems with the culverts.

The closure between Bellingham and Nugents Corner starts at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday and is scheduled to last until late September.

Traffic must detour around the closure. The state Department of Transportation recommends taking Everson Goshen Road and Smith Road. Crews recently installed a compact roundabout at the intersection of Smith and Everson Goshen to accommodate more traffic.
