Tuesday ceremony will mark opening of new Bellingham trail

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will officially open a new trail running along the city’s waterfront.

At 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, the public is invited to celebrate the official opening of the ASB trail.

The trail is one-third of a mile long and begins at Bellwether Way near the Coast Guard building and runs southwest to the end of the I and J Waterway. The trail then crosses Hilton Avenue, where there is a new parking lot, and heads out the lagoon.

Parking for the ceremony will be available along Hilton Avenue, and the ceremony will take place on the small beach uphill from Hilton and near the start of the lagoon portion of the trail.

The city hopes to eventually extend the trail around the remainder of the lagoon, creating a full loop.
