Man suffers life-threatening injuries in Bellingham apartment fire

A Bellingham man suffered life-threatening injuries in an apartment fire Wednesday afternoon in the Roosevelt neighborhood.

The man, whose age was not known, was taken to St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham for treatment, Bellingham Fire Department spokesperson Dustin Michaelis told The Bellingham Herald.

Firefighters were called to the report of a residential fire at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, in the 1700 block of Texas Street, according to the PulsePoint app.

Within eight minutes of arriving on scene, Michaelis said firefighters had located the man and removed him from the burning building.

Though the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Michaelis said it was believed to have originated on the first floor.

Other than the injury, Michaelis reported there were no significant problems with the fire, as crews were able to extinguish it relatively quickly.
