This local lavender farm is the perfect summer spot. What are your local summer must-dos?
Laurel Lavender Farm in Ferndale is a great summer spot to visit, but you only have a few weeks to do so.
Visitors can walk through the lavender fields, pick their own bunches, learn about lavender production, shop handmade lavender products or attend a free lavender oil distilling demonstration.
The latest lavender blooms last until about the first week of August, so visiting the farm in July is your best bet to see the beautiful purple and even pink lavender blooming.
The family-owned local farm was started by Bruce and Karen Duim in 2017.
The beautiful farm has more than just lavender fields and also features a Douglas fir and cedar forest, marshland and a creek.
Part of the land is protected through the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, which protects the land from any domestic animal or human disturbances. Wildlife such as pileated woodpeckers, deer, owls, eagles, coyotes and other bird species are common in the farm area.
The farm is also known for its ducks and duck eggs. The pasture-raised ducks roam through the lavender fields so don’t be surprised to see some on your visit.
The farm also has an online store full of lavender soaps, tea, lotion, oils and other homemade products. Orders can be shipped to your home or picked up at the farm.
Laurel Lavender Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day in July, and is located in Ferndale at 5842 Braeside Lane.
