Blaine Schools main campus locked down due to threat. No school Thursday
There will be no school on Thursday, May 26, the Blaine School District announced following a lockdown Wednesday.
The main campus school was locked down May 25 after a student received threats by text message from an unknown source, according to a statement posted about 7 p.m. by Blaine Superintendent Christopher Granger and Blaine Police Lt. Michael Munden.
“The student received additional threats that escalated in seriousness and indicated a person was in the school with a weapon,” according to the statement.
Blaine Police tweeted at 3:43 p.m., asking that people avoid the area as they and other agencies investigate.
Law enforcement agencies cleared the buildings without incident and no injuries were reported, according to the statement.
The investigation continues but no person of interest was identified.
The district said students will be able to access school buildings at the main campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday to retrieve personal items if they wish. A decision about school on Friday, May 27, will be announced Thursday.
At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the district posted on social media that “Some students in grades 6-12 were initially evacuated to the Boys and Girls Club and released to families. All remaining students are being moved to the stadium for reunification. Police are still clearing our buildings and families are asked to stay off campus until notified.”
Students were still being reunified with families at 7 p.m., but the district wrote: “...we are all working together to bring families back together as quickly as possible. We are working to assure all students are accounted for and appreciate everyone’s patience.
“Despite the chaos and difficulty of this day, we are all incredibly grateful for the partnership between our school district and police department. Most of all we are grateful for the safety of our community’s children,” the statement ended.
