Sheriff’s helicopter airlifts this injured snowmobiler off Mount Baker
A 60-year-old man had to be airlifted off Mount Baker Saturday afternoon after he was injured in a snowmobile accident.
The man was riding a snowmobile May 21 on the south side of the mountain in area known as Peanut Knob, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater told The Bellingham Herald in an email, when he suffered a lower leg fracture.
The sheriff’s office was notified at approximately 1:15 p.m., and deputies responded to the scene and called the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for assistance, Slater reported.
Snohomish County sent a helicopter, which located the man, hoisted him into the helicopter and took him to Providence Hospital in Everett, according to Slater.
Others on the mountain captured video of the helicopter arriving and the main being being taken up in a basket to the hovering helicopter.
