Memorial Day weekend events in Whatcom County include this parade

Memorial Day is Monday, May 30, and honors those who died while serving in the U.S. Military.

If you are looking for local events to honor this national holiday, here are some of the Whatcom County events being held during Memorial Day weekend:

Centennial Whatcom Memorial Day Parade

The Centennial Whatcom Memorial Day Parade will be held Saturday, May 28.

The parade will start at noon at Alabama Street and Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham, travel along Cornwall Avenue, turn left on Champion Street, left on State Street, and end at York Street where the celebration will continue until 3 p.m.

After a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Memorial Day parade.

The Avenue of Flags at Greenacres Memorial Park

Greenacres Memorial Park cemetery is holding its “Avenue of Flags” from May 28 through May 30.

Over 1,850 flags will be displayed in the memorial and visitors are welcome during cemetery hours from dawn until dusk.

Maps will be available on Saturday for visitors. The cemetery is located at 5700 NW Drive in Ferndale.

Lynden Cemetery and Greenwood Cemetery Flags

Both Lynden Cemetery and Greenwood Cemetery will be lined with Veteran Memoriam flags on Monday, May 30.

Lynden Cemetery is open from dawn until dusk daily and is located at 1975 Front St., Lynden.

Greenwood Cemetery is open from dawn until dusk daily and is located at 605 E. Wiser Lake Road, Lynden.

Americal Legion ceremony

American Legion Post 154 will host a Memorial Day ceremony this year, according to a social media post from the city of Ferndale.

Retired Air Force Col. Robert Lyles, post commander, will speak at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Enterprise Cemetery, 7041 Vista Drive.
