This Bellingham event gets a cartoon twist on its traditional parade this weekend
Boat season is starting and The Bellingham Yacht Club will celebrate with the community Saturday, May 7.
The public is invited to watch a “Looney Tunes” themed boat parade and tour a 45-foot Coast Guard boat.
“We are so excited to welcome the Coast Guard to Opening Day and to see the inside of their rescue boats without having to be rescued first. The Bellingham Coast Guard Station is such an asset to our community, and this is our chance to meet and thank them,” Bellingham Yacht Trustee Jane Bright said.
Tours of a Coast Guard boat will be open from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Squalicum Harbor Gate 3, near the Bellingham Yacht Club.
The event will also include a traditional flag raising and blessing of the fleet during opening ceremonies at 10:45 a.m. at the Bellingham Yacht Club, 2625 S. Harbor Loop Drive.
The boat parade will begin at 1 p.m. at the Bellingham Ferry Terminal, 355 Harris Ave. in Fairhaven.
Anyone is welcome to participate in the boat parade but registration is required prior to the event.
The Bellingham Dockside Market will also be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., selling freshly caught fish from local fishermen at Squalicum Harbor Gate 5, northwest of Zuanich Point Park, a two-minute walk from The Bellingham Yacht Club.
