With the Fourth of July falling on a Saturday this year, many offices and some businesses will observe the holiday on Friday, July 3. Others will close only July 4. Some small retail stores and restaurants might be closed one or both days, but most larger stores and restaurants will be open.
Here is a list of key places and their status Friday and Saturday. For those not listed, call ahead to check on hours.
Whatcom County offices: Closed Friday and Saturday.
Bellingham city offices: Closed Friday and Saturday.
Whatcom County library branches, bookmobile: Closed Saturday, but Friends of the Blaine Library is holding a book sale during Blaine’s Independence Day celebration.
Bellingham Public Library: Closed Friday and Saturday.
Bellingham parking meters: Not enforced Friday or Saturday.
Banks: Some are closed Friday; most closed Saturday.
U.S. Postal Service: Closed Saturday, no mail delivery.
Garbage: SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal will pick up trash on regularly scheduled routes. Trucks might be earlier than normal, so put out trash the night before.
Whatcom Transportation Authority: No buses running Saturday.
The Bellingham Herald: Offices closed, but regular newspaper delivery.
Cascade Ambulance: Open.
YMCA: All locations closed Saturday.
Arne Hanna Aquatic Center: Closed Saturday.
Whatcom Museum: Closed Saturday.
Grocery stores: Most have regular hours. Exceptions: Trader Joe’s will close 5 p.m. Saturday; Community Food Co-op locations will close 8 p.m. Saturday. Bellingham Public Market open regular hours Friday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday with most of the businesses inside open.
Bellis Fair: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Some stores with outside entrances will be open longer hours.
Regal Barkley Village Cinema, Pickford Film Center, The Limelight: Open.
Whatcom Community College: Closed.
Western Washington University: Closed.
Bellingham Technical College: Closed.
Northwest Indian College: Closed.
