Bellingham city cleaning party aims to help keep city litter-free: Here’s how to help
With litter complaints at an all-time high in Washington state, the city of Bellingham is announcing upcoming work party events for volunteers and city workers to help clean area parks.
The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program hosts community volunteer work parties in the fall, winter and spring seasons at trails and parks across the city.
The program provides all needed tools, gloves and instructions so volunteers simply show up in the right clothing, ready to help. The program recommends that volunteers wear good shoes and cover arms and legs.
The work parties are usually on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at various locations, and all ages and abilities are welcome. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
According to the program’s website, the work parties still enforce COVID-19 guidelines, so participants five years and older must wear masks, and hand sanitizer is provided.
Participants must register online before the event, and once registered will receive more information such as where to park.
The next work party will take place this Saturday, April 2 at Lower Padden Creek Trail at 921 Donovan Ave. For a complete list of future events and volunteer opportunities, visit the city of Bellingham’s website.
