Update: Samish Way reopened in Bellingham after ‘very serious’ hit and run crash

Samish Way reopened about 7 p.m. in south Bellingham after a “very serious” hit-and-run crash closed the road at 1 :30 p.m., the Bellingham Police Department reported in tweet Friday evening.

Officers are looking to identify the driver of a white sedan who hit a man on a John Deere lawnmower, police Tweeted.

Samish Way is closed Feb. 11 in both directions near the Elks Club while the crash was investigated, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.

“Road closure to last at least an hour,” the tweet read. “Be caution, be patient.”

According to an unconfirmed radio emergency broadcast at the time, Whatcom County Support Officers were called to the scene.

Another broadcast said that southbound traffic was being diverted at Taylor Avenue.

The Bellingham Herald has asked police for more information about the crash.
