Whatcom woman injured when car slides through stop sign on icy road and into semi truck
A Whatcom County woman was injured when the minivan she was driving slid through a stop sign and into a semi truck, but the 6-year-old in her car reportedly was not seriously injured.
Megan N. Perkins, 38 of Nooksack, was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital in Bellingham after the crash that occurred at approximately 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the intersection of East Pole Road and Everson Goshen Road, according to the Washington State Patrol report on the incident.
Perkins was driving her 2006 Honda Odyssey northbound on Everson Goshen Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at East Pole Road due to the icy road conditions at the time, according to the report.
The Odyssey slid through the intersection and struck a brown 2018 Peterbuilt semi truck and trailer that was being driven westbound on East Pole Road by a 24-year-old driver from Abbotsford, B.C., the report states.
Perkins and her 6-year-old passenger were both wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the report. Perkins was taken to the hospital, but the 6-year-old was released to her father at the scene, the State Patrol reported.
The semi driver also was not injured in the crash, though he was not wearing a seat belt at the time, according to the report.
Perkins has been released from the Emergency Department at the hospital, spokesperson Bev Mayhew told The Herald in an email Wednesday, Jan. 5.
Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to have played a role in the crash, but the icy roads did, the State Patrol reported.
