Man dies in Whatcom fatal crash on Guide Meridian Tuesday
The Washington State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in Whatcom County that occurred Tuesday afternoon along southbound Guide Meridian.
North Whatcom Fire and Rescue crews were called at 12:37 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, to the 6600 block of Guide Meridian south of Beard Road for the report of an expanded traffic collision, according to the PulsePoint app.
North Whatcom Chief Jason Van der Veen told The Bellingham Herald that life-saving efforts for an adult man were stopped at the scene and the man died.
Van der Veen said the State Patrol is investigating the crash and that he could not comment about how many cars were involved, though he said there was just one victim.
“It was an unfortunate circumstance,” Van der Veen said.
The Washington State Department of Transportation tweeted that the right lane of southbound traffic would be closed “for some time” while the State Patrol investigated, but that traffic could get around using the left lane.
The Bellingham Herald has reached out to the State Patrol for more details about the crash.
The fatal crash is the first of the year on Whatcom County roadways after there were 14 fatal crashes resulting in 17 deaths in 2021, according to the WSDOT Crash Data Portal.
