Bellingham family uninjured in Puget neighborhood fire, but 3 cats still unaccounted for
A family of four was displaced by a house fire in Bellingham’s Puget neighborhood Monday afternoon, and a social media report Tuesday says that the family has not yet been able to account for three cats.
The Bellingham Fire Department was called at 3:50 p.m. Nov. 8 to the 1500 block of Lincoln Street for the report of a residential fire, according to the PulsePoint app.
The family of four was able to get out of the house uninjured, fire department spokesperson Dustin Michaelis told The Bellingham Herald Tuesday, Nov. 9.
Michaelis said firefighters were able to contain the fire to one house.
“No value on the loss, but damage from the fire was pretty well throughout the entire building,” Michaelis said.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, Michaelis reported, as furniture placed too close to electrical wire is believed to have ignited flames.
Firefighters were called back out to the scene at 10:09 p.m. Monday, according to PulsePoint. Michaelis said that was the result of the fire rekindling.
A social media post Tuesday afternoon on Nextdoor by a neighbor said that the family could not account for three cats and asked those in the neighborhood to keep an eye out for them.
