Did you feel it? Small quake rattles south of Bellingham Tuesday in Skagit County

A small earthquake shook beneath Skagit County Tuesday afternoon, approximately 25 miles south southeast of Bellingham.

The quake initially was measured with a 3.2 magnitude, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s web page on the quake. It struck at 2:11 p.m. Nov. 9, approximately 6.3 miles east southeast of Mount Vernon, east of Big Lake.

The quake was measured 15.4 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface, the USGS reported.

As of Tuesday afternoon, one person in Whatcom County had reported feeling the shaking on the USGS’ “Did You Feel It?” page, along with two others closer to the epicenter in Skagit County.

Quakes between magnitude 3.0 and 3.9 are considered minor and are often felt by people, but rarely cause any damage, according to the USGS.
