Person walking on I-5 in Bellingham after an earlier crash reportedly hit and killed

A person walking on Interstate 5 in Bellingham after an earlier collision was killed after being hit by multiple cars Tuesday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The collision occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. Nov. 2 along southbound I-5 near milepost 254, according to a tweet by Trooper Rocky Oliphant’s account.

“Sadly this is a fatality,” Oliphant’s tweet read.

A follow up tweet by Oliphant’s account states that the pedestrian “was involved in an earlier collision, got out of her vehicle and was sadly struck by a vehicle.”

All vehicles involved in the collision stopped, but I-5 was closed for nearly three hours while troopers investigated, according to the tweet.

The State Patrol has not yet sent out an incident release about the collision.

The death would be the 11th on Whatcom County roadways so far this year, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Crash Data Portal. It would be the first this year along the Interstate and the first involving a pedestrian, according to the WSDOT data.
