Bellingham-area home tour adds sustainable living festival

A new festival is being added to Sustainable Connections’ 13th annual Imagine This! Home & Landscape Tour.

The Sustainable Living Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, and will showcase tools for environmentally friendly living. Urban farming equipment, eco-friendly paints and earthen ovens will be among the display.

The festival will be at 210 E Laurel St. and also will have sustainability experts present to answer questions. A food truck and beer garden will be available.

The home and landscape tour will be running 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28. For $10, visitors can tour local homes utilizing the newest eco-friendly technology and designs.

Among the locations showcased will be three newly constructed Kulshan Community Land Trust low-income homes in the Birchwood neighborhood that have been designed to meet Evergreen Sustainable Development standards.

The homes, located at 2939 Lafayette St., include Energy Star appliances, water-saving fixtures, solar panels and green-certified carpeting.

Advance tickets for the tour can be purchased at Village Books or either Community Food Co-op location. During the event, tickets can be purchased at any stop along the route.
