Firefighters will be collecting donations for muscular dystrophy research at the intersection of Meridian Street and Bakerview Road on Thursday, June 18, and Friday, June 19.
Between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. more than 30 firefighters will be at the intersection for the annual Fill the Boot campaign. The volunteers will be carrying boots to collect cash or checks made out to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Money raised during the event will be used to fund clinics, support groups and other research efforts of the MDA. Funds will also go toward improving life for Whatcom County residents affected by muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease) or other muscle diseases.
International Association of Fire Fighters Local 106 has been participating in the drive for more than 60 years and also sponsors a number of other local events to raise money for muscular disease research.
