Bellingham tour showcases eco-friendly homes, yards

Sustainable Connections will host its annual “Imagine This! Home & Landscape Tour” in the Bellingham area from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27 and 28.

The tour showcases 10 eco-friendly homes and landscapes with innovations in green design, reclaimed materials, net zero energy, rainwater harvesting, passive solar construction, rain gardens, permaculture, and low-maintenance landscapes.

“Each site has a story to be told with many useful tips, affordable ideas and takeaways to help jumpstart your next green project,” said Rose Lathrop, green building and smart growth manager for Sustainable Connections.

In addition, a free Sustainable Living Festival will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27 at 210 E Laurel St., just off the South Bay Trail in the Alley District, in the south end of downtown Bellingham. The festival will feature environmental products and services, plus activities for children, giveaways, games, prizes, a beer garden and a food truck.

The home and landscape tour costs $10 per person, free for kids 15 and younger, with tickets at Village Books, Community Food Co-op, and any stop the day of the tour. A printed tour guide with a map is available at many local businesses and at sustainableconnections.org.
