Drugs or alcohol suspected in motorcyclist’s death Tuesday on Bow Hill

Drugs or alcohol are believed to have been involved in a 58-year-old motorcyclist’s death in a single-vehicle crash along Bow Hill Road Tuesday evening.

Ronald W. Brodland of Mount Vernon died at the scene when the white 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI he was riding crossed the center lane into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a concrete barrier on the left side of the road, according to the Washington State Patrol report on the incident.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:51 p.m. Sept. 22 near the intersection of Bow Hill Road and Hobson Road, west of Interstate 5 in Skagit County.

Brodland was wearing a U.S. Department of Transportation helmet at the time of the crash, but the State Patrol said drugs or alcohol were involved. The incident remains under investigation, according to the report.
