Collision between car and bicyclist leaves one dead in Ferndale; Slater now open
A bicyclist is dead following a collision between a car and a bike on a Ferndale Road Thursday afternoon, June 18.
Cyclist Christine D. Seyl, 71, of Ferndale died at the scene, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo Thursday evening.
Debra L. Ludtke, 70, from Ferndale was driving eastbound on Slater Road when the bicyclist came into the roadway in front of her tan 2009 Honda Accord. Ludtke was not injured in the collision.
The collision remains under investigation by the state patrol. Seyl was wearing a helmet, the patrol reported.
The collision was first reported to the Whatcom County Sheriff at 2:24 p.m. according to an alert on the PulsePoint app. At 2:36 p.m. the state patrol was requested to respond to the scene, according to Washington State Patrol Public Information Officer Heather Axtman.
The road reopened to traffic just before 6 p.m. Axtman said.
