Peaceful Solidarity Rally reportedly scheduled for Saturday at Maritime Heritage Park
A Peaceful Solidarity Rally is scheduled to be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Maritime Heritage Park in Bellingham, according to a Facebook event, which has already seen more than 3,800 people respond.
The Bellingham Herald has reached out to the six people listed as hosts of the event, but has not yet heard back.
The city of Bellingham is aware of various gatherings planned, including one Saturday afternoon at Maritime Heritage Park, Communications Director Janice Keller told The Herald in an email Thursday afternoon.
“We are not accepting or processing any facility use or special event permits, per the Mayor’s Executive Order 2020-03, which is based on our public health emergency response to the threat of COVID-19,” Keller wrote. “The city is not opposing the gathering, however.”
According to the event page, the inclusive event is to bring the community together “to make a stand for the injustice of a failed system.” People of Color community members are scheduled to stand together and speak out with victims of murder, marginalization and repression because of their skin color, the event page said.
In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, event organizers asked anyone who plans to attend to bring their own masks and sanitizer and practice good social distancing.
