State Patrol seeking witnesses to I-5 pedestrian-involved fatal in Skagit County

A person who was lying in the lanes of northbound Interstate 5 near the south end of Mount Vernon in Skagit County was killed early Tuesday after being struck by several cars.

The Washington State Patrol reported in a release that the incident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. May 26 near Blackburn Road. Early reports were that the person was lying in the lanes of traffic at the time of the fatal crash, according to the release.

The incident resulted in northbound lanes being close for approximately four hours, according to Washington State Department of Transportation tweets at the time.

The name, age and gender of the person were not included in the State Patrol release.

State Patrol detectives are asking anyone who may have seen a pedestrian on the Blackburn Road overpass or believe they struck an item in the roadway at approximately 2:20 a.m. to contact Detective Charles Sletten at 360-654-1144 or Charles.Sletten@wsp.wa.gov.
