Bellingham climber dies after fall from Sehome Arboretum rock wall

A 22-year-old man died in the Sehome Arboretum Monday morning, April 20, when he fell while climbing a rock wall, Bellingham police say.

The man has been identified as Elliot Scott, a senior at Western Washington University from Snohomish, according to the university.

“The Western community offers its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Elliot Scott,” the school said in a news release.

Officers were called to the Arboretum at 8:59 a.m. Monday, and after investigating, found Scott had died as a result of the fall, Murphy said. Police believe he was climbing a rock wall, when a large rock fell, trapping him underneath.

Scott was pronounced dead at the scene, Murphy said.
