Wake up around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning? You may have felt this small earthquake

A 2.7 magnitude quake was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, near Darrington, approximately 50 miles south east of Bellingham. It was measured at 5 miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck at 2:56 a.m., and the epicenter was located almost between White Horse and Darrington, just south of the Skagit-Snohomish county line, according to Googlemaps.com.

No damage was reported, but seven people reported feeling the quake on the USGS’ “Did You Feel It?” web page, though none were in Whatcom County.

Quakes of less than magnitude 3.0 are common, and tens of thousands are reported worldwide every year, according to the USGS.

A quake of magnitude 1.0 to 3.0 is not felt except by a very few under especially favorable conditions, according to the USGS.
