61-year-old snowmobiler with hypothermia rescued near Mount Baker
A 61-year-old man with hypothermia was rescued Wednesday near Mount Baker by a helicopter search-and-rescue team from Naval Air Station Whidbey.
The man has not been identified beyond his age but was transported to St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham around 11 a.m.
The man, who was reported missing by family on Tuesday was discovered by a group of snowmobilers from the Whatcom County Snowmobile Association around 8 a.m. by the Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead. The crew determined the man’s condition was too critical for them to transport him so they called for help from the air.
The SAR crew received the call around 9 a.m., were in flight 35 minutes later and reached the man shortly after 10 a.m.
