Four injured in a three-vehicle crash involving dump truck along Everson Goshen Road
One person suffered serious injuries and three others were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash, including a dump truck, Friday afternoon along Everson Goshen Road.
Washington State Patrol detectives are on the way to examine the crash scene Friday afternoon to investigate potential vehicular assault charges against the 28-year-old driver of a passenger car that reportedly ran a stop sign at Central Road, Trooper Anthony Reese told The Bellingham Herald. Both roads are shut down for that investigation but reopened by Friday evening.
Whatcom County Fire District 1 units were called at 1:53 p.m. March 20 to the intersection of Everson Goshen Road and Central Road, according to emergency radio broadcasts at the time.
The crews responded to find a collision between one passenger car, a box truck and a dump truck, Reese told The Herald. The trucks had minor damage Reese said Friday evening.
Preliminary investigation found that the passenger car was traveling westbound on Central Road and ran a stop sign at Everson Goshen Road and hit a dump truck carrying gravel that was traveling southbound, Reese said.
“The passenger car went into the intersection — it looks like it might have been trying to beat the dump truck through the intersection — and it struck the dump truck with enough force it caused the dump truck to rotate and leave the road,” Reese said.
The passenger car then spun and hit a box truck that was traveling northbound on Everson Goshen Road, Reese said.
The driver of the car suffered what were believed to be minor injuries, Reese said, but his 19-year-old passenger had to be extracted from the car. Reese said the passenger’s injuries were significant with multiple broken bones.
Both juveniles and the drivers of the dump truck and box truck were all taken to St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham, Reese said.
