Berries from Lynden farm recalled for Norovirus concern
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and WinCo Foods on Friday, March 13, issued a recall for frozen berries manufactured at Rader Farms near Lynden for the potential they contain Norovirus.
The recalled products were distributed at WinCo Foods stores in Washington state, as well as Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Utah, according to the FDA, and include:
▪ 16-ounce bags of WinCo Frozen Blackberries with a UPC code of 70552-30502.
▪ 16-ounce bags of Winco Frozen Berry Medley with a UPC code of 70552-30522.
▪ 32-ounce bags ofWinco Frozen Berry Medley with a UPC code of 70552-30512.
All three products have a best-by date of Dec. 9, 2021.
Norovirus is highly contagious and typically causes vomiting, diarrhea and nausea, though most symptoms end within 48 hours, according to the FDA. The elderly, young children and the immunocompromised may develop prolonged or more severe symptoms.
No customer illnesses have been reported yet, but the FDA it sampled and tested the product and found it to be contaminated with Norovirus.
The FDA urged customers who purchased the berries to destroy them or return them to WinCo for a refund. WinCo can be reached at 800-824-1706.
