Residential fire hospitalizes one, closes lanes on Guide Meridian north of Bellingham

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue and Bellingham Fire Department crews are battling a residential fire along Guide Meridian north of Bellingham that has resulted in one person being taken to the hospital and lane closures in the area.

Emergency units were called at 9:44 a.m. Monday, March 16, to the 5600 block of Guide Meridian, just south of Axton Road, according to the PulsePoint app.

Unconfirmed emergency broadcast reports at the time said that an elderly man was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. PulsePoint also showed one person transported by aid units.

The Washington State Department of Transportation also tweeted at 10:36 a.m. that two northbound lanes were blocked by an incident in the area.
