Elderly man reportedly drives SUV into Bellingham Starbucks near Fred Meyer entrance

An elderly man on Friday reportedly drove his green SUV into the Starbucks near the entrance of the Fred Meyer store on Bakerview Road, but no serious injuries were reported, according to unconfirmed emergency radio broadcasts at the time.

Bellingham Fire Department crews were called at 10:15 a.m. March 6 to the 1200 block of West Bakerview Road for the report of mutual aid.

Follow up broadcasts said that the man had driven his SUV into the building near the east entrance.

A Bellingham police officer was on the scene and said the driver suffered a minor head laceration, according to radio broadcasts. No other injuries were reported, and one person was taken to the hospital, according to the PulsePoint app.

Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald in an email that there was no apparent damage to the building, and a broadcast reported it was “business as usual.”
