Junior Ski to Sea ‘a fun event and a great community event that we enjoy putting on’
It’s all about the kids this weekend in Bellingham, Wa. — between the Junior Ski to Sea Parade on Friday through downtown and the Junior Ski to Sea team relay race Saturday in Squalicum Creek Park.
The Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce is organizing both events.
Here’s what you need to know.
Parade
First up is the parade on Friday, May 17.
Look for cute children, floats and pets in the parade in downtown Bellingham as the tradition continues for another year.
“It’s going to be what people have remembered in the past, a really great event, same location, same time,” said Stephanie Wiley, program and events coordinator for the Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Participants may line up where the parade starts at 4:15 p.m. at Cornwall Avenue and Kearney Street. Judging kicks off at 4:30 p.m.
The parade starts rolling at 6 p.m. It will go along its usual route on Cornwall Avenue and Kearney Street, down Cornwall and end at Railroad Avenue and East Champion Street.

Race
The 2019 Junior Ski to Sea Race is Saturday, May 18.
This year, it’s at Squalicum Creek Park in Bellingham, 1001 Squalicum Way and across from West Street in the Birchwood Neighborhood.
A total of 408 kids on 68 teams will compete in this year’s race.
Each team has six kids competing in five legs — run, Hula-Hoop partner race, soccer, bike and obstacle course.
“It’s such a fun event and a great community event that we enjoy putting on,” Wiley said.
The event will have three different races: the morning elementary school race at 9 a.m.; the middle school and community race at noon; and the afternoon elementary race at 2:15 p.m.
Check-in for each is an hour before race time.
Parking is nearby at Bellingham Technical College.
