Shooting, stabbing at Motel 6 in Ferndale injures two

Police are investigating a stabbing and shooting during a fight at Motel 6 in which two men were injured on Thursday morning.

The call came in around 8:55 a.m. for the incident at 5671 Riverside Drive, just west of Interstate 5.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 crews found two men outside – one in the back of the motel, Division Chief Ben Boyko said.

Authorities found a man who was shot in the upper torso and another who had been stabbed in the lower jaw.

The man with the stab wound is believed to be the shooter, Ferndale spokesman Riley Sweeney said.

Boyko said the man who had been stabbed was in stable condition, while the man who was shot was believed to be in critical condition.

Both men were taken to St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham.

No additional information, including their names, was released as of Thursday afternoon because of the ongoing investigation, according to Sweeney.

Ferndale Police believe there’s no danger to the public, he added.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol and the Department of Corrections also responded to the call.
