U.S. troops overseas will soon get cards from Whatcom children
Retired Army Sgt. Julie Smith observed Veteran’s Day Friday with an appearance at Village Books, where she read stories and helped make cards to send to troops overseas.
Smith, a preschool teacher, said teaching the children about veterans is a valuable life lesson – that veterans are regular people who answered the call to serve the country.
“They can be teachers like I am, or doctors or lawyers,” Smith said. “Being in the military there is an array of jobs to do.”
