Explosion injures workers in Everson

McClatchy

Firefighters responded Friday afternoon to a report of an explosion and fire at a manufacturing facility for nylon sheeting in downtown Everson.

Whatcom County Fire District 1 Chief Mel Blankers said the explosion was in a machine at Nylatech, which also caused a small fire – the fire was extinguished by two employees.

The cause of the explosion was unknown pending an investigation.

Employees evacuated the building at 406 Lincoln St., a dispatcher told responding units over emergency radio.

In a Facebook post, Nylatech said a machine operator suffered, “minor burns and the paramedics suggested he visit the hospital as a precaution.”

Another employee was treated at the scene, Blankers said.

“We are investigating to determine the cause,” the company’s post said. “Thank you everyone for your concern.”

According to its website, Nylatech makes nylon sheeting for industrial, marine and other applications.
