Bellingham Police are investigating an incident that injured a pedestrian Tuesday morning in the Happy Valley neighborhood.
A 58-year-old man was crossing Old Fairhaven Parkway southbound at 30th Street about 7:30 a.m. and was hit by a southbound vehicle turning east toward Interstate 5, police said.
He suffered a possible broken leg and hip injury, in addition to facial scrapes, said Bellingham Police Sgt. Carr Lanham. Bellingham firefighters took the man to St. Joseph hospital for treatment, Lanham said.
“(We’re) still investigating if the pedestrian had a walk or don’t-walk signal,” he said.
So far in 2017, 25 crashes have been reported involving bicyclists and pedestrians in the city, according to state Department of Transportation records. That includes one fatality and six suspected serious injury incidents.
A total of 37 such incidents were reported in all of 2016, with 6 suspected serious injuries and no reported fatalities.
