An elite local racquetball player who has been charged with sexually assaulting two girls and raping an intoxicated woman is now facing additional sex assault charges in a fourth case.
Carlos A. Scott, aka Carlos Alberto Rivera, 45, of Bellingham, has been arrested four times the past four months and charged with sex crimes that date from 2013 to spring 2017. He met three of those alleged victims at the Bellingham Athletic Club.
Scott has pleaded not guilty in all four cases.
In the latest case, a woman reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by Scott earlier this year. The woman told investigators she decided to report the instances after reading a story in The Bellingham Herald detailing similar allegations made by women who had met Scott at the same athletic club, according to Whatcom County Superior Court records.
In 2014, the woman met Scott and he propositioned her with weight training instruction and free massages, claiming he was involved in Olympic training and a professional certified masseuse, according to court records. The woman, who is in her late 20s, initially declined Scott’s offer, but after his persistence she allowed him to massage her at the gym, and later his house, the records state.
The woman recalled Scott told her he was uncomfortable massaging her at the gym and said, “(I) don’t want my reputation to look bad and didn’t want people judging me,” according to court records.
Several massages took place at Scott’s home. The woman told investigators she kept going because she believed that “Scott was a professional and because she thought the massages provided her with therapeutic relief from pain associated with weight training,” according to court records.
The woman told investigators she recalled Scott would touch her inappropriately on her thigh or crotch during the massages, she would tell him no and he would claim it was an accident, according to court records.
In mid-February the woman agreed to meet Scott for drinks in Barkley Village. The woman agreed to a massage at Scott’s home where he grabbed her inappropriately. The woman told investigators she tried to push Scott off but she wasn’t strong enough, court records state.
When Scott took the woman back to her vehicle he forced himself on her again and she tried to fight him off again, but couldn’t. He later told the woman “I thought you wanted it,” according to court records.
Scott posted $100,000 bond the same day he was arrested, Sept. 7. He has been charged with two counts of indecent liberties and one count of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation.
In the first case in spring of this year, a girl alleged that she was raped by Scott when she was 12, according to court records. Scott faces two counts of second-degree rape of a child. He spent around 14 hours in jail before he was released without requiring to post bail.
In the second case, Scott met a woman at the Bellingham Athletic Club where he also allegedly propositioned her with massages. Scott allegedly raped the woman while she was unconscious in the spring of 2014, according to court records. He faces one count of second-degree rape. Scott spent one night in jail and posted $50,000 bond.
In the third case, Scott propositioned a teenage girl to be her personal trainer at the Bellingham Athletic Club. Scott then allegedly molested her on several occasions from 2013 to 2015, according to court records. Scott was charged with one count of second-degree child molestation and two counts of third-degree child molestation. Bail was set at $20,000, which he posted.
