Bellingham Schools superintendent offers these insights about fall school options

Parents, students and staff at Bellingham Schools learned about several changes for the first day of classes in an email and website post from Superintendent Greg Baker on Thursday, July 16.

In his message, Baker described in more detail plans for the start of in-person classes Sept. 2.

“Our schools are preparing to reopen in the fall, and we are still developing both at-home and in-person instruction models,” Baker said in his email. “For those who are ready and able to head back into our schools, there will be safety measures and new requirements for our students, staff and families. Based on current guidance, these measures will include face coverings, distancing, sanitizing, health screenings, and smaller class sizes.”

School officials will collect information about whether parents are ready to send their children back to school full-time during the COVID-19 pandemic or if they want to use an online program at home.

All Washington state schools have been closed since March 15 and students have continued their learning online.
