Whatcom health department reports 7 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, but no deaths

After reporting no new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, the Whatcom County Health Department says there were seven new positive tests for COVID-19 on Wednesday, May 6.

The county’s number of deaths related to the respiratory illness remained unchanged at 27, though. The county is now reporting 326 cases since the first was announced on March 10.

The county also reported five new negative tests on Wednesday, bringing the total number returned to 2,889.

St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham reported Wednesday that it had two positive test results returned and no additional suspected cases. That came after three people tested positive and four were awaiting lab results on Tuesday, May 5.

To date, the hospital reports that it has treated 54 COVID-19 patients.

More than 3.7 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed worldwide, with more than 259,000 deaths as of Wednesday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University. The United States has more than 1.2 million confirmed cases — the most reported cases of any nation — with at least 71,526 deaths.

Overall, the Washington State Department of Health reported 15,594 cases and 862 deaths Tuesday evening.
