Whatcom closes on 300th coronavirus case with five new positives, no deaths Wednesday
Five more Whatcom County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Whatcom County Health Department statistics released Wednesday, April 29, but no new deaths linked to the new coronavirus were reported.
The county is now just two cases short of reaching 300 confirmed diagnoses of the respiratory illness, with 298 positive tests and 28 related deaths, the country reported.
After four straight days of seeing the daily number of new cases increase by only one between April 22-25, Whatcom’s positive test numbers have climbed by 14 the past four days.
The health department also reported 91 negative COVID-19 test results Wednesday, increasing the total number to 2,424.
More than 3.1 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed worldwide, with more than 224,000 deaths as of Wednesday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University. The United States has more than 1 million confirmed cases — the most reported cases of any nation — with at least 59,392 deaths.
Overall, the Washington State Department of Health reported 13,842 cases and 786 deaths as of Tuesday evening.
Lummi reports three cases
The Lummi Public Health Department in a Facebook post Wednesday reported that three more community members have tested positive for COVID-19.
Those three new cases bring the total number of Lummi Nation community members to be diagnosed with the new coronavirus to 25.
No other information about the community members was provided in the release, other than the Lummi public health department said it was working to identify close contacts with the three people, instructing them to self quarantine and offering testing to those that were exposed and experiencing symptoms.
